    About the Position

    Primary duties of the Youth Middle School Member (MS) include participating in all elements of the MCC program to the best of their ability, contributing to the functioning of the crew, and maintaining a positive attitude while completing natural resource and community service projects.   MS members will establish and maintain good working relationships with their crew leaders, fellow youth crew members, regional staff, and project technical advisors. MS members are supervised by MCC staff Youth Program Managers and are led on conservation projects by MCC Youth Crew Leaders.  MS members will utilize the support of their Youth Crew Leader(s) and regional staff to complete their term of service successfully. 

    Responsibilities

    Programmatic Duties

    • Ensure safety is the top priority during all MCC activities and projects and promote a ‘culture of safety’
    • Follow all MCC policies and procedures contributing to the overall functioning of the crew and creating a healthy and supportive crew environment
    • Willingly participate in all elements of the MCC Member Development program, education, and crew activities to the best of their ability
    • Promote a positive public image for the MCC by wearing the MCC uniform and acting in a professional and respectful manner at all times
    • Exhibit a strong work ethic and positive service ethic throughout the term of service 

    Administrative Duties

    • Complete and submit required reports and other paperwork in a timely manner
    • Provide information for evaluation of Youth Crew Leaders, including both positive feedback and areas of potential improvement

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 12-14 years old, Montana resident
    • Ability to complete a criminal history check self-certification
    • US Citizenship or ability to work in the US
    • Commitment to complete the entire term of service
    • Strong service ethic and desire to serve the community and the environment
    • Ability to hike 3-7 miles per day in rugged terrain, often wearing a large backpack and carrying tools
    • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds repeatedly
    • Ability to be away on overnight trips for up to one week at a time.
